Prior rebuttals I took to the VA itself about its claims of my abusing medications.  Records prove I took less medication than was prescribed thru the VA. Period. Too easy right? Well even with their own records in front of them they persist with their claims. Cut me off 100% over a year ago from all medications.

I was used to the VA putting me thru withdraws from strong narcotic medications, when they cut me off completely I was taken aback but not unprepared. I knew to taper down, though illegal in Texas I supplemented with cannabis when needed. Though I have had my health decay since, I survived. The same can’t be said for others….

One of my brothers from Iraq, my company, my platoon, my friend, a man who was blown up with me once and we both lived to see another day. He was cut from his narcotic pain medications provided by the VA at about the same time as myself (different state, different story, but same questionable VA action). He had trust and faith in the VA, but when he requested inpatient treatment to cope with withdraws the VA turned him down. When he turned to civilian treatment, the hospital turned him away. He was unable to set aside the pride, throw the stigmata’s to the wind and do whatever was needed to survive. Tragically he didn’t survive, buried on my birthday 2011.

R.I.P. Sgt. Marcus E. DeAntoni, 12 May 1984 – 04 Sep 2011. Hope this helps bring light to your story and prevents future tragedies of the same nature.

I had avoided narcotics for as long as I could, turning down multiple VA doctors suggestions on morphine or methadone or any related heavy medications. It took a few years and dozens of other medications and treatments to fail before I caved in. Then, it was still a built up process, taking a couple of years to amount to the levels the VA was prescribing (over 100mg of narcotics a day). I have a healthy proper fear of the medications, and it was my last resort to admit defeat and fall in line with the VA’s request of me to be sedated instead of treated. It is unjust how the VA has weaved their story, portraying me as a lowly drug addict and them as the voice of reason.
